Meta is a story about a young man named Cody who has lead a rough life jumping from foster home to foster home. He leaves New York and his past behind, in search of a greater destiny. Jessica, a childhood friend who bonded with him while they went through the same turmoil, comes along for the ride. They dream of a new life as aspiring rock musicians, planting their feet on a stable, new ground.
Upon his entry into California, he meets and falls in love with Sara, a young woman who still believes in the goodness of all souls. She sees past Cody’s dark and complex exterior and finds a pure heart inside of him.
Even though he finds a new life and love, his past still haunts him. He is still followed by a strange psychological disorder that creates frequent blackouts every time he hears this one particular song. His last episode nearly takes his life away. Sara and Cody do a desperate search to find a cure through a psychiatrist named Naomi Madison. Naomi believes that his disorder is stemmed from a traumatizing childhood experience- perhaps the mystery of his long lost father- and tries to uncover it through hypnosis. However, she takes him too far. He reaches to a portal into his past life. She frantically tries to wake him up before it takes him any further. Unfortunately, the portal fails to shut. Memories and feelings of his past spill over to his waking present moments.
Naomi is a woman whose core has been hardened by a painful past. An abusive father made her heart become steel and unwilling to succumb to weakness. However, she does have a weakness and her struggle to hide it unveils her yearning to break free from the imprisonment of her mind.
The new Cody becomes undeniably attracted to Naomi. Despite the confines of the doctor-patient relationship, he is fiercely drawn to her and breaks all boundaries. Naomi, feeling the deep connection, gives into his impulses and fits of passion. This creates a tidal wave of disruption within his life with Sara and everyone else around him. Sara finds his tainted heart too unbearable to take and bitterness now envelopes her. All sense of order is lost- Cody’s memories of his past and present lives mesh together into utter chaos. He loses touch of his one true identity. Trying to make sense of it all, he discovers more about himself and unfolds a dark secret about Naomi that shatters his core. They are once again thrown into the same circumstances that bound them in their past life. He must make a decision once and for all in order for his soul to move on. Thuy Tran
